Dragon's Fortune
Apollo’s Favor is part of The Mythology Collection, three shawls by Kino Knits. The collection also includes the single-skein Unicorn Luck and three-skein Apollo’s Favor patterns. All three shawls can be knit in any yarn weight/gauge and any yardage!
My older son is obsessed with dragons, so I couldn’t resist trying to capture that magic in a design that’s still thoroughly grown up.
Here’s how it’s going to go: knit a long strip of gloriously textured dragon scales. Take delight in the delicious 3D-ness of the wrong side. Get all your fancy knitting out of the way first, then pick up along one long edge and settle into some easy garter stripes. You’re going to get the most out of your skeins as you knit until you run out.
This shawl was successfully tested in lace, fingering/sock, and sport yarn, so you can spread your wings and take flight.

Yarn:
2 colors fingering yarn. Recommend at least 100 g/3.5 oz skein of each. May use different weights or amounts if desired, though this will affect the finished size of the shawl.
Sample shown in Tempting Ewe Yarns Ewe So Happy Sock (90% merino, 10% nylon), 480 yds/439 m per 4.41 oz/125 g), colorways Dozer (MC, green) and New Moon (CC, navy)
Dimensions:
As this shawl is highly adaptable, the finished dimensions will vary with yardage. Sample used 260 g (998 yds/913 m) fingering yarn and measured 55”/140 cm by 17”/43 cm.
Needles:
US 5/3.75 mm for scales and US 7/4.5 mm for garter, both for fingering weight. Use smaller needles for finer yarn and larger needles for thicker yarn to achieve a drapey fabric.

4 stitch markers
Gram scale to weigh yarn as you go
Tapestry needle to weave in ends
Sample Blocked Gauge:
For fingering:
32 sts and 32 rows = 4”/10 cm in Dragon Scales, using US 5/3.75 mm needles
