Apollo's Favor
Apollo’s Favor is part of The Mythology Collection, three shawls by Kino Knits. The collection also includes the single-skein Unicorn Luck and two-skein Dragon’s Fortune patterns. All three shawls can be knit in any yarn weight/gauge and any yardage!
For the final shawl in the Mythology Collection, I’m going with my son’s favorite Greek god, Apollo. (Thanks, Rick Riordan!) Apollo was the god of the sun and prophecy, among other things. This shawl celebrates all things solar – from the half-pi shaping to small and large lace sun motifs to slipped stitch rays spreading throughout.
And fortune is in your favor, in that it’s designed to make the most of your yarn. This shawl was tested in fingering, sport, DK, and worsted, so grab three skeins and knit up every precious bit!

What testers had to say:
“Loved that I could use up nearly all of the yarn.”
“I liked the variety of stitches and techniques.”
Skills:
Working flat from written or charted instructions, one color/strand of yarn at a time. Knit, purl, knit through the back loop, slip with yarn in front. K2tog, K3tog, SSK, SSSK, CDD, CQD (similar to a CDD but with 5 stitches instead of 3) decreases. Kfb, YO, KYOK increases.
Yarn:
3 colors DK yarn. Recommend at least 100 g/3.5 oz skein of each. May use different weights or amounts if desired, though this will affect the finished size of the shawl.
Sample shown in Jems Luxe Fibers Luxe DK, 100% merino, 274 yards/ 251 m per 3.53 oz/100 g, colorways Golden Lyre (C1), Serpent Slayer (C2), and Ill-Fated Loves (C3) from the Apollo Fade
Dimensions:
As this shawl is highly adaptable, the finished dimensions will vary with yardage. Sample used 874 yards/799 m DK yarn and has 72”/183 cm wingspan and 31”/79 cm depth.
Needles:
US 9/5.5-mm circular needles to knit flat, or size needed to obtain gauge for DK weight. Use smaller needles for finer yarn and larger needles for thicker yarn to achieve a drapey fabric.
Tools:
Tapestry needle to weave in ends
Blocking wires and pins
Scissors
Sample Blocked Gauge:
For DK:
15 sts and 28 rows = 4”/10 cm in garter
16 sts and 23 rows = 4”/10 cm in stockinette, both wet-blocked and aggressively pinned out with blocking wires
