La Grande Jatte ($6 via Ravelry or Love Crafts). Designed for the Yarnover Truck Happiness Gradient Club yarn inspired by George Seurat’s, “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte,” this pattern features parasols and increasingly frequent yarn overs (get it?) in honor of the painting’s status as one of the most famous examples of pointillism. This is also a great shawl for someone who loves thunderstorms! Designed for flexible yardage so you can maximize your available yarn. Just grab about 100g of sock yarn!
Rock Solid ($6 via Ravelry or Love Crafts). I’m thrilled to design again for the Lots of Socks KAL, which recognizes the beauty and uniqueness of individuals with Down Syndrome. For these socks, I chose some bright mini-skeins and arranged them in bold colorblocks. A main color stripe (an I-cord incorporated right into the socks) travels down the back of the leg, then splits around a Fleegle-style heel (great for high insteps!). Donations from the sales of these socks will go to benefit Down Syndrome International to give children with Down Syndrome around the world a rock-solid foundation.
All proceeds from the sale of this pattern through 11:59 PM EST on February 19, 2020, will be donated to Down Syndrome International. Design Notebook
Rock Solid: I have knit a few pairs of socks with this type of heel (Fleegle) and find they fit me really well (I have a high instep), so I wanted to incorporate it into a design. I thought about leaving the heel plain and putting a line of small cables down each side of the heel triangle (and may still design that one day). I knew I needed something brightly colored for the Lots of Socks KAL, and the Mint Rain Yarns Highlighters Plus Black miniskeins had been lingering in my stash for at least 4 years waiting for the perfect project. I thought about the black line running down the leg (still imagining cables), but I couldn't figure out how to make that work in the round in a way I felt like doing. (I know technical ways how… just didn't want to do it this time.) I was afraid the cable would pop out too much - and then I realized I could just lean into it and make the line pop out on purpose by making it an I-cord. So now here we are!
