Announcements

The Safari Mittens Collection is live! Get four mittens in four sizes each for just $6 total through October 31, 2018, with Ravelry coupon code LETSGO. $1 from the sale of every collection will go to support the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, which cares for orphaned elephants and other animals in Kenya.

The mittens are named for the Swahili words for Elephant (Tembo), Rhino (Kifaru), Giraffe (Twiga), and Warthog (Pumba). I used The Fiber Seed Sprout Sock in Birch and Espresso colors – the idea is that you can mix-and-match the mittens.

Contest for 10 skeins of Paintbox Simply DK yarn will run through next episode (057). Love Knitting has created a “How Long Will It Take Me to Knit This?” calculator. Go try it out and comment on your experience in the Kino Knits Ravelry contest thread. If the thread is unlocked, you can still enter! One winner chosen by Random Number Generator will win!

Knitting Around the World

Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University’s Textiles Lab created an algorithm to translate 3D shapes in computer models into instructions for automated V-bed knitting machines – basically turning the knitting machine into a 3D printer. Click to listen/read the story.

Do you know of good resources for flat-bed or V-bed knitting machines? Post in the episode thread if you have tips/stories for me!
