I completed 36 projects, according to Ravelry, including:
- 5 shawls
- 6 pairs of mittens and 2 pairs of mitts
- 9 pairs of socks
- 3 sweaters
- 5 hats
- 1 cowl
- 1 pumpkin
- 1 mug cozy
- 1 cup
- 1 cat
- 1 hammer
- 13 preemie hats for charity, not included in Ravelry total because I never bothered to make pages for them
I knit 14 things as designs but wear a few of them myself and gave one as a gift. I knit myself 2 sweaters, a shawl, and a pair of mitts. I gave away 16 things as gifts. One thing is still in limbo – for me? For someone else? And HOW DID I NOT KNIT MYSELF ANY SOCKS?
I published 15 new patterns:
- Hon Cowl
- Tolstoy Collection (Anna Karenina, War and Peace, The Three Questions)
- Jordan Street Socks
- Against the Grain Socks – free pattern for newsletter subscribers
- Point/Counterpoint, Vol. 4 (Parallelograys hat and Be Relentless mitts)
- The Safari Mittens Collection (Kifaru Mittens, Pumba Mittens, Tembo Mittens, Twiga Mittens)
- Haggle shawl
- Megaliths Hat
#makenine2018 was very successful – 8/9 things completed, with the 9th being to work on my fleece that I’m spinning for a sweater (washing and lots of hand-carding done, some singles spun)

Haggle is my newest design! In what can seem like a politicized black-and-white world, it turns out there’s often a lot of gray. I had a vision of this shawl years ago. I’d lived in multiple countries where negotiating skills were key for navigating the local markets. Two sides start out diametrically opposed, and they gradually bend and flex until they come to a middle ground. When The Fiber Seed posted a picture of a gorgeous gray gradient, I knew I’d found my ideal yarn for the pattern. In a time that is so politically charged, we could all stand to negotiate and find a way to coexist.
Haggle is 50% off through 11:59 PM EDT on October 27, 2018, with Ravelry coupon code COMPROMISE. Click here to view in Ravelry!
The Safari Mittens Collection is live! Get four mittens in four sizes each for just $6 total through October 31, 2018, with Ravelry coupon code LETSGO. $1 from the sale of every collection will go to support the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, which cares for orphaned elephants and other animals in Kenya. The mittens are named for the Swahili words for Elephant (Tembo), Rhino (Kifaru), Giraffe (Twiga), and Warthog (Pumba). I used The Fiber Seed Sprout Sock in Birch and Espresso colors – the idea is that you can mix-and-match the mittens.
Join in the Point/Counterpoint, Vol. 4 KAL through October 31 to win great prizes from our sponsors (details in the Ravelry KAL thread) #pointcounterpoint4kal
